3-Ingredient Chocolate Apple Mousse

Whenever I crave something chocolatey but don’t have the time to make a proper dessert, I turn to this simple 3-ingredient Chocolate Apple Mousse. It takes just a few minutes to make, and I don’t end up with a sink full of dishes afterward.

The chocolate gives this mousse a rich flavor, while the apples make it smooth and creamy. It’s also nice to serve at evening tea parties or small gatherings. I usually keep a bowl in the fridge for the weekend.

If you’re serving this at a gathering, spoon the mousse into small glass bowls or individual glasses. I love how it looks this way. This recipe serves 6 to 8 people, but you can easily halve or double it depending on how many people you’re serving.

How to Make 3-Ingredient Chocolate Apple Mousse

INGREDIENTS:

  • 2 sweet red apples
  • 200 g dark chocolate
  • 40 g cocoa powder (optional)

Step-by-Step Instructions:

1. Peel the apples and cut them into 1-inch cubes.

2. Add enough water to a saucepan to fully cover the diced apples. Boil them for about 15–20 minutes, or until they’re soft and slightly mushy. Drain the water and let the apples cool for a few minutes.

3. Melt the dark chocolate using a double boiler or microwave.

4. Add the melted dark chocolate and boiled apples to a food processor or blender. Blend until you get a smooth puree.

5. Pour the chocolate-apple mixture into a deep bowl or small serving glasses. Refrigerate for at least 6–8 hours, or until set.

6. Once the mousse has set, dust it with cocoa powder and serve chilled.

Important Recipe Notes:

  • The apples and chocolate give this mousse some natural sweetness. If you prefer it sweeter, add a little honey, maple syrup, or sugar.
  • Make sure to use fresh, sweet, and juicy red apples. If you’re using green apples, add a little sugar to balance their tartness.
  • You can make this mousse ahead of time and store it in the fridge for 4 to 5 days. I like having some ready whenever I crave something sweet.
  • For a lighter, fluffier mousse, fold in some whipped cream before refrigerating.
