Most bathroom clutter comes from things that don’t belong there. Try these 7 daily habits to keep it clutter-free.

If you are someone like me, you probably hate decluttering your bathroom. There’s a load of things inside the bathroom that needs to be tackled with – the countertop, bath area, under-counter sink and cupboards. And you just cannot hope to spare every weekend for bathroom decluttering, or it will make you feel overwhelmed.

If you’re refusing to believe that your bathroom is prone to attract clutter quickly and easily, ask yourself how often do you put the makeup products back in their designated place after using them? Do you dispose of the empty bottles of toiletries and bath essentials immediately? How often do you take a look inside your bathroom cabinets and drawers and find items that you don’t need?

And how else can you keep your bathroom clutter-free if you don’t have time to declutter it on a regular basis?

Decluttering bathroom on the daily can be overwhelming, and it’s definitely not a task that would excite you. But you can definitely keep your bathroom clutter free if you have a few minutes to spare every day. Here’s some daily habits you can adopt to make your bathroom stay clutter-free all the time:

1. Eliminate Visual Clutter

Your bathroom attracts a lot of visual clutter that often ends up making it look dirty. If you’re wondering what visual clutter is, take it as those splotches of soap/toothpaste on the faucets and those ugly strands of hair on the floor. Even the bathroom mirror can be a huge source of visual clutter because of the watermarks and stains it keeps attracting on a daily basis.

If you are looking to keep your bathroom clutter-free all day long, spare just 5 minutes every day to address these sources of visual clutter. Spray some disinfectant liquid on your bathroom mirror and faucets and wipe them using a microfiber cloth. Now pick those strands of hair lying on the bathroom floor and in the bath area and flush them down.

2. Keep Only The Daily-Use Products On The Countertop

Bathroom countertop often ends up being overly cluttered because it keeps way more products than needed. There’s no point keeping three bottles of shampoo when you only need one to take a bath. Your first-aid box doesn’t need to sit on the counter because you are not getting injured daily.

Make sure that your countertop only has items that you use at least once a day and store the rest in the closet. Ideally, you should keep just a hand wash and a toothbrush stand on that counter. For toiletries and bath essentials that are used daily, get a shower caddy that is sturdy enough to hold a good number of products.

3. Put Your Clothes In The Laundry

If you are in the habit of letting your clothes sit on the towel stand after taking bath, you are inviting clutter for no reason. Make it a rule in your house to put dirty clothes in the laundry immediately after coming out of the bath.

4. Declutter Makeup As You Go

Makeup and cosmetics pave way for a lot of clutter in your bathroom. The best way to tackle this problem is to sort through your makeup while using it. Every time you do your makeup before going out, keep an eye on anything that has dried up or smells odd. Also get rid of anything that’s past its expiration date.

For instance, if you use a set of 5 makeup products regularly, keep them separated from the rest of the products. You can get a small pouch for the products that are used daily and keep it on the counter. For products that are used occasionally, get a makeup organizer that can easily be kept in your bathroom cabinet. Now you don’t have to sort through the everyday makeup products but look out for the ones that are used occasionally to check if they are still fit for use.

5. Do A Daily Reset

Spare a few minutes every night to do a quick clutter pick-up in your bathroom. Grab anything that is lying out of place and return it to its rightful home. You may find hair accessories, scrunchies, combs and lipsticks laying around on the countertop. You may also find those hair appliances lying out of their designated home or an empty toothpaste tube lying purposelessly in the toothbrush holder. Trash away any unwanted items and put away the rest.

6. Do A Weekly Clean-Up

In order to keep your bathroom in the best condition, there are certain tasks that you must do at least once a week:

  • Wipe the shower, taps, sink, countertop. Assuming that you have been wiping the floor every day after taking a bath, make it a habit to deep clean it at least once a week using a good-quality disinfectant. Also clean the toilet bowl at least once a week.
  • Vacuum behind the toilet, under the sink and cabinets and in every corner of the bathroom to get rid of grime or dirt that might have settled there.
  • Empty the trash bin, and change the smell diffuser if the old one has run out.

7. Do A Monthly Clean-Up

There are certain areas in your bathroom that don’t require as much attention as the ones listed above but still end up becoming a clutter hotspot. Some of the things you should do on a monthly basis to address this problem are listed below:

  • Go through the medicine cabinet at least once a month and get rid of the medicines that have expired or are contaminated. If you find empty strips or syrup bottles, trash them immediately.
  • Launder the shower curtains.
  • Sort through your bathroom cleaning products and get rid of any expired disinfectants or broken cleaning brushes.

With a bit of intention and a minimalistic approach, decluttering your bathroom won’t look like too big a task. You just need to tackle the clutter little by little rather than waiting for it to pile up.
