Professional Organizers Reveal How to Transform Your Master Bedroom Fast

Master bedroom is one of the most clutter-prone area of your house, along with the kitchen. When you talk about decluttering, your master bedroom is the one area that often gets overlooked because it isn’t usually counted as a dominant area of the house. You keep decluttering your living room on a regular basis to avoid creating a bad impression on the guests coming over to visit you. You make it a point to declutter your bathroom at least once a week for hygiene-related reasons and your kitchen because it’s where you cook for your family. But the master bedroom is always likely to get ignored despite being the place where you come back to relax.

The master bedroom of my house got ignored for the longest time despite being the most utilized corner. It has a shoe rack that gets accessed over a dozen times a day, a dresser top that gets used even more than the shoe rack, closets and drawers that hardly get to rest and a nightstand that holds more stuff than it is capable of. And with all that our master bedroom does for me and my family, I recognized it as my responsibility to turn it into the most beautiful corner of the house.

Your master bedroom is where you come back to retreat to. It’s where you spend the most relaxing time of your day which makes it deserving of only the things that add value to your life. You don’t want anything to distract you when you are enjoying your downtime in the master bedroom. So if you have finally decided to give this space of your house a nice little purge, here are a few tips that can help:

1. Make Your Bed

Making your bed should be the first task you do as soon as you wake up. Fold away any linens or comforters and pile it off on one side of your bed. You will be surprised by how this small task helps clear your mind.

Now that you’ve made your bed, remove any item that has wrongfully found its way on your bed. It can be the random items of clothing, bags, accessories, towels, bath robe, snack jars or anything else. If you don’t want to deal with these items right away, keep them aside to be dealt with later.

2. The Night Stand

Your night table needs to be decluttered next because it’s the thing you sleep next to. Start by clearing off the surface of your night stand by removing any extra stuff sitting on it and set a limit on the number of items that are allowed to stay there. It can be a night lamp or an alarm clock or just a glass of water.

Once you’ve cleared the flat surface, move on to the drawer and remove any item that you don’t need at night. If you have trouble figuring out what items you should keep in your night stand drawer, try creating a list of the items you need before or while you’re sleeping. It can be a book that you’re currently reading, your medicines, reading glasses and any skincare items you use before sleeping. Use this opportunity to wipe the surface of your night table with a damp cloth.

3. The Closets Or Wardrobe

Decluttering the closet is the biggest hurdle you’ll face as you head towards a clutter-free master bedroom. It can be difficult to get rid of your precious clothing items but I promise that there’s nothing more freeing than standing in front of a closet with just the clothing items that you love to wear.

Start by emptying out all your clothes in one place – preferably on your bed. Pull out the items one by one and ask yourself if it goes along your personal style. Get rid of the pieces that you haven’t worn in the last one year. If possible, try on your clothes to figure out the ones that don’t fit you anymore. Clothes that are damaged, torn or unused should straight away head to the garbage or the Donation Box. 4. The Underwear/Sock Drawer

Your sock and underwear drawer can have a lot of items that are just too worn out but haven’t been dealt with for years. So start by emptying out the contents of the drawer on your bed and pick each item one by one to decide whether it goes or stays. Get rid of the socks that have lost their pairs, are too worn out or have holes in them. Similarly, get rid of the underwear that doesn’t fit you or is too worn out or torn.

Once you’ve decluttered the socks and underwear that you don’t need or love, start placing the remaining items back into the drawer. Make sure that you use a drawer organizer to make it easy for yourself to find these items when needed.

5. The Book Shelf

If you’re someone who loves reading, the chances of your bookshelf being cluttered up are way too high. Start by identifying the space you have in your house to keep those books and decide on the number that you will allow yourself to keep. It can be 20, 30, 50 or 100. Sort through your bookshelf to donate the books that you have already read and the ones that you have no intention to read in future. Once you’ve decluttered the excess or unneeded books, it’s time to organize the rest of them back in the shelf.

You might have to focus on the specific zones while decluttering your master bedroom rather than going for a full-fledged decluttering process. Also, make sure that you keep decluttering it on a regular basis.

I hope these master bedroom decluttering tips turn out to be as helpful to you as they have been to me. Are there any other tips you think I might have missed out on? Feel free to share them in the comments below or write me at hello@theaestheticabode.com.
